What's Counselling

Difficult times and difficult feelings affect everyone at some time during their lives. Most of the time we can talk to people in our family or our friends about our problems.

Sometimes this does not feel right. This is when it might help you to meet a counsellor.

Counselling is time to talk with a person who will listen to everything you say, help you understand how you feel and help you find ways to feel better.

All our counsellors are friendly people who are here to help you. All our counsellors are specially trained to work with children and young people. They all have qualifications and do more training regularly so they keep learning and getting better at what they do. Our counsellors work to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy code of ethics.

“Before I came to Relate I felt like a glass of water under a dripping tap and every drop of water was the rubbish that had happened to me. After a while my glass got full. I couldn’t cope and I overflowed. I got really, really angry. Now by coming to see the counsellor you have taught me how to empty the glass before it gets full.”
